People's need to categorize...

What is up with us? People are so odd, yes, I suppose I'm also speaking of myself. What is it that drives us to need labels for everything? What drives us to need fences, and plots and boundary markers on a planet we have no business pretending to own?
"We cut our piece of reality into boxes, into rooms, into spaces carved by our designs, set by our own selections, and imagined to be whole worlds--entire universes. We put up walls, and because we no longer see the world, we pretend it is the outside world that is the illusion. The things we create and build are models of illusions about reality. They wall off pieces of the world that WE WANT the world to be. We fence land into plots, into pices that they are not, trying to make little worlds that we can hold because we are too small to hold the sky and too limited to understand even one small cluster of stars." ~ Evan Harris Walker, The Physics of Consciousness .

Here are some images that come to mind, from larger than imaginable, to small enough to carry.
It's almost unimaginable to think. I wonder if it is an attempt to defy entropy, or merely an attempt to feel less small and less insignificant. I do not know...but I am curious.

It isn't just with space that we label, plot, covet and hold. It's with people, animals, trees, fluids, foods...everything. There is nothing we see that we do not feel compelled to label or understand. I'm out of time....something else we've broken down into measurable units...

Random thoughts

Why did they move the button for turning the high beams on and off in a car to the steering column and off the floor? I think that was much easier and less distracting. You can't keep 2 hands on the wheel if you're fumbling for the switch. And remember the vent windows, and the little things you could open so air would blow on your feet?

On another note, there's a comforter set I REALLY want, I'm going to get it tomorrow. It's too close to Gemma's bedtime today for me to go to Windham. Why should I buy it? Because I'm putting salve on the hurt that TicketMaster and StubHub caused by fucking me out of a reasonable priced pair of tickets to Pearl Jam. I could've gone....I also could've sat on the fucking ceiling behind the stage. I can stay home and watch them on YouTube for free and avoid the cluster fuck of other creepy humans. If I'm going to deal with a crowd, I am going to have good seats. I absosmurfly refuse to pay the artificially inflated prices the digital scalpers charge. I hate them. I think the scalping laws need to be updated. Perhaps now it should only be legal to scalp in person, at the venue, the day of the show...and each scalper may have no more than 10 tickets or they will be subject to mob anger and probably walk away with no money and no tickets for acting like greedy shits.

Trayvon Martin vs. George Zimmerman

George Zimmerman was found not guilty of the second degree murder or manslaughter of Trayvon Martin. Both sides are equally indulging in ad hominem attacks on the opposing view. Hatred is yet again being misplaced. The jurors are now being threatened, but because Florida law reads like something out of the wild west, they truly had no choice.
So the law protected George Zimmerman, but the court of public opinion is split. Why is this such an issue now? I have a few thoughts, because we are a racist country, like it or not. So whether or not Zimmerman is legally guilty, there is so much racist behavior still present in the justice system that it will never be able to be trusted by those it has harmed the most. The list is endless...then you have the shit stirring, over the top media coverage. Too bad NBC intentionally edited the 9-1-1 call. There is no way to know, no one to trust.
Why is everyone who believes George to be not guilty stating the reasons that Trayvon's life wasn't really of value anyway? This bothers me the most I think because it is exactly what people do who believe children with Down syndrome should be aborted. Discuss how shitty they think those people's lives are and what a burden they are to others. Well fuck that. Trayvon was someone's baby, and whether or not you believe George Zimmerman was guilty or not, he didn't deserve to die, the world is not a better place without him in it. I don't think George Zimmerman needs to be stoned to death either, and I don't think the jurors, lawyers etc should have their lives and their families lives threatened. What the fuck is wrong with people? Are those spewing hatred from either court so willing to sell their souls for a bitter lick of revenge?

The Attic Shop

Just as a quick intro, I chose to call this "The Attic Shop", because that was the name of my grandmother's shop down over the hill from her house. So many memories...not one of them negative.

The Attic is such a fabulous metaphor, a place to store old things that you can't bear to part with, up in the tippy-top of the house. And of course, our heads are the attics of our bodies...storing many precious items as well. The attic can be an place for adventure, solitude, reminiscing, scaring oneself, and a place for creating.

I have my other blog about the kids, this one is just for me, for my random thoughts. Sometimes the shit that rolls around in my head is just not appropriate for a blog about my kids...but sometimes it needs to be purged.

I'm pretty sure my sanity is intact...

Let the adventures begin.
